What to Consider

Plan an employment offer in Greenland

Review compensation, payroll, work authorization, employment terms and practical setup before making an offer.
Compensation Salary and total employment cost

Greenland does not have one useful universal salary figure for international employers. Compensation should reflect the role, experience, sector, location and practical working conditions.

Budget beyond salary

Include AMA, pension treatment, holiday, EOR fees and any housing, travel, equipment or field-work support.

Housing considerations

Housing availability can affect recruitment, onboarding and the overall compensation package.

Remote projects

Work outside established towns may require additional tax, travel, safety and operating-cost planning.

Housing, phone, internet, vehicles and other benefits may need to be included in payroll reporting.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Greenland EOR FAQs

Does Greenland follow Denmark’s employment and payroll system?
No. Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark but has its own tax, employer-reporting and work-authorization framework. A Danish payroll or residence setup should not be assumed to apply automatically.

No. Greenland and Denmark are separate immigration areas. A Danish residence or work permit does not automatically authorize someone to live or work in Greenland, so the candidate’s Greenland-specific status must be checked. See SIRI’s official guidance.

Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden can generally live and work in Greenland without a permit. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens are not covered by EU free-movement rules in Greenland and generally follow the same work-permit process as other non-Nordic nationals. Certain exemptions may apply.
Reporting can include wages, pensions, taxable benefits, A-tax and AMA. Reports are generally due by the 10th of the following month. If the 10th falls on a weekend or public holiday, the deadline moves to the next working day.
It helps to provide the position and duties, work location, candidate nationality or immigration status, proposed salary and benefits, intended start date, and any housing or travel arrangements. NNRoad can then review the likely EOR, payroll and work-authorization requirements.
